Something shocking happened in the crypto world! A story that could have been a Netflix script suddenly surfaced after almost half a decade of silence...

In December 2020, 127,426 #BTC were stolen from the Chinese Bitcoin pool LuBian, one of the leaders in mining in Asia. At that time, it amounted to about $3.5 billion, but with the rise in the price of Bitcoin, the amount grew to $14.5 billion.

And the most astonishing thing — no one knew about it. Neither journalists. Nor exchanges. Nor analysts. Only now, in August 2025, has the research company Arkham Intelligence revealed this.

How billions were stolen — and no one noticed

In 2020, LuBian owned almost 6% of the global Bitcoin hash rate. But at one moment, everything disappeared. On December 28, 2020, 115,210 #BTC were withdrawn from the pool's wallets — almost the entire balance. The next day — another transaction for millions from the Omni protocol. The remaining 11,886 BTC were panicked transferred to other addresses.

It would seem that a large-scale attack should have raised alarms worldwide. But — silence. Why? Because LuBian disappeared. They simply ceased operations. The website is offline. Representatives are silent. And the blockchain network reveals nothing if no one is watching...

Brute-force and an error that cost $14B

As researchers found out, LuBian made a fatal miscalculation — a vulnerability in the private key generation algorithm. Perhaps the hackers simply guessed the right keys. Not through phishing. Not through server hacking. But through mathematical calculation.

For five years, the pool tried to recover the stolen assets. They even sent the attacker thousands of transactions with messages in OP_RETURN, pleading for the return of some assets and offering a reward. To no avail.

#BTC -the hacker disappeared — but left a trace.

Since July 2024, the stolen #BTC have not moved. The owner of these wallets became the 13th largest holder of Bitcoins in the world.

He didn’t wash the coins. Didn’t move them to exchanges. Just sits — like a shadow in the blockchain. Waiting?$BTC
