CAMBODIA 🇰🇭 - THAILAND 🇹🇭: CAMBODIA AND THAILAND ARE FIGHTING OVER AN OLD BORDER ISSUE.
For several days, Cambodian and Thai soldiers have been fighting at the border between their two countries. Because of these clashes, around 80,000 Cambodian villagers have had to leave their homes for safety. It's as if an entire small town had to evacuate urgently! Schools are closed, and over 130,000 students can no longer study. On both sides, there have been casualties, and the situation is not improving.
But how did we get here?
It all started a very long time ago. In 1907, Thailand (which was called Siam at the time) and France, which governed Cambodia, drew the border between the two countries. But some areas, especially around old temples, have never really been resolved.
The temple of Preah Vihear is at the heart of the problem. It was built over 900 years ago, and it is a sacred site. In 1962, an international court said that this temple belonged to Cambodia. But to get there, you have to go through Thailand, and that has been causing disputes for years.
For a few days now, fighting has resumed, and both countries are blaming each other for starting it. Thailand has even declared a state of emergency in certain areas. The American President, Donald Trump, has said he wants to help calm things down, but for now, tensions remain high.
And what do you think?
- Should these two countries find an agreement once and for all, even if it’s difficult?
- Or will old conflicts like this never really be resolved?
Let me know what you think! Don't leave without liking and sharing your opinion in the comments! It's always with great pleasure.
