Cyberattack Due to Weak Password Destroys 158-Year-Old British Transport Company ๐ฑ๐ฅ
The historic British transport company โ KNP โ collapsed after an attack by a hacking program known as Akira ๐๐ป.
The attack began with a weak password of one of the employees ๐คฆโโ๏ธ, where the attackers were able to easily guess it and breach the company's systems ๐. They then encrypted operational data and halted the work of over 500 trucks ๐๐, resulting in a complete shutdown of the company's activities and about 700 employees losing their jobs ๐๐.
According to a BBC Panorama report ๐บ, the hackers left a message saying:
"If you are reading this, it means that your company's infrastructure is completely or partially disabled... shed your tears aside and let's start a constructive dialogue." ๐ฌ๐ญ
The crisis response team from Solace Global ๐ก๏ธ confirmed that all servers, backups, and disaster recovery systems were completely destroyed โ๐พ. The average ransom demanded from similar British companies was around ยฃ4 million ($5.4 million) ๐ธ, which is considered normal compared to the scale of losses suffered by the company ๐.
