An Unskilled IT Guy Made $500,000 by Scamming Silicon Valley Startups

Indian programmer Soham Parekh managed to earn around $500,000 in a year by deceiving dozens of startups with fake resumes. He lied about academic degrees and easily passed interviews—despite not knowing how to do the actual job.

He worked for 2–3 months at a time, sabotaged tasks, and made up excuses like “bombings” in his hometown by Pakistan—despite being thousands of kilometers away from India. Then he’d resign and move on to the next company.

The story was first revealed by the founder of Mixpanel. Afterward, several other startup CEOs came forward, saying they’d fallen for the same scheme.
