Ethereum Cancun upgrade completed, Layer2 enters a new stage
In March 2024, Ethereum successfully implemented the Cancun upgrade (Dencun), significantly reducing Layer2 transaction costs. The gas fees for mainstream L2s such as Arbitrum and Optimism dropped by over 90%, while ecosystems like Starknet and zkSync in the ZK-Rollup space accelerated their development. After the upgrade, the TVL and the number of active addresses in Ethereum L2 saw significant growth, further consolidating its position as the preferred platform for DApps.
