Data Leak Shocks: Over 16 Billion Google, Facebook, GitHub Accounts Exposed
Global cybersecurity experts are alarmed after an unprecedented large data leak has been discovered, with over 16 billion login credentials exposed, including accounts #Google , #Facebook , #Github , Telegram, and many government and business platforms.
According to Cybernews, the leaked data comes from malware that steals information, credential stuffing attack databases, and previously leaked data repackaged. Some datasets have been found on unsecured cloud storage – although they were quickly taken down, it was enough for hackers to copy the entire content.
Experts state: "This is not just a leak – but a blueprint for mass exploitation behavior." The consequences could lead to account takeovers, identity theft, and sophisticated scams.
Worryingly, many users and organizations have yet to implement two-factor authentication (2FA) or use passkeys, making them easy targets.
In this context, experts recommend:
Enable 2FA on all important accounts.
Do not reuse old passwords.
Switch to using passkeys or a password manager to enhance security.
This leak serves as a clear warning about the importance of cybersecurity in the digital age.
