Launched in August 2020 by an anonymous individual known as "Ryoshi," SHIB was created as an experiment in decentralized community building. Built on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token, SHIB was designed to be an alternative to Dogecoin (DOGE) [1] .
The initial supply was set at one quadrillion tokens. Half of this supply was locked in Uniswap to provide liquidity, while the other half was sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
