Think of the goatherd who leads the goats along the mountain: if he sees one getting too close to the edge of the ravine, he doesn't just stand there waiting to see if it turns back on its own. He goes and grabs it by the skin on its back. Because if it falls… the only thing he will collect is the dead goat, poor thing.
