The altcoin market is showing early signs of a trend break, and several analysts predict a possible increase in the coming months.
Cryptocurrency commentator Mister Crypto predicts that the next 3 to 6 months could be “transformative,” suggesting that daily gains of up to 40% could soon become the norm.
In a post on May 11 on X, he pointed to a chart from BlockchainCenter.net indicating whether the cryptocurrency market favors Bitcoin (BTC) or altcoins.
When the index is below 25, it is considered “Bitcoin Season,” meaning Bitcoin is outperforming most altcoins. When it is above 75, it is “Altcoin season” or "Altseason," indicating that altcoins are performing better than Bitcoin.
Currently, the chart shows a break from a downtrend just below the 29 mark, suggesting a potential shift in Bitcoin's dominance. This break indicates that altcoins could begin to gain momentum, potentially entering a period where they outperform Bitcoin.
This altcoin season may be different
Others see the rebound but warn that it is not the same as previous cycles. Analyst 2Lambroz agrees that the altseason may have arrived, but says that the dynamics have changed.
“People want to bet, but lack confidence in a solid narrative,” he wrote on X. He noted that, unlike in 2021, there are no signs that retail investors are entering the market. Traders are rotating capital faster, with little incentive to hold long-term positions.
Technical trader Moustache offered a more optimistic view. He shared a chart showing repeated phases of altcoin accumulation followed by explosive growth. According to him, the current structure reflects those of 2016 and 2020. “The altseason of 2025 has officially begun,” he stated.
However, skeptics persist. Commentator Rekt Fencer noted that most altcoins have fallen 90% since December. A modest 10% rebound this week sparked exaggerated optimism, leading him to mock the rebound. “This is the ALTSEASON we’ve all been waiting for,” he joked.
