• IBM uses artificial intelligence to automate HR tasks.

  • At the same time, employment at the company has increased due to investments in IT and sales.

  • IBM launched services for creating its own AI agents.

IBM's CEO Arvind Krishna stated that the company has applied artificial intelligence to automate corporate processes, including tasks in the HR department. This is reported by WSJ, citing the entrepreneur's words.

According to Krishna, this has freed up resources to expand the staff of programmers, sellers, and marketing specialists. Thus, some people lost their jobs, while specialists from other fields were given the opportunity to join the company.

Krishna noted that as a result of AI implementation, overall employment at IBM has increased, despite the reduction of 'a couple of hundred' positions in HR. He emphasized that the company continues to invest in areas requiring critical thinking and customer interaction, where automation has not yet replaced human labor.

Krishna's comments came ahead of the Think conference in Boston, where IBM unveiled new services for creating its own AI agents. These solutions complement the offerings of other major market players, including Amazon, Microsoft, and OpenAI, and allow for the management of agents and corporate data.

According to available information, IBM offers a flexible approach, allowing clients to integrate their existing AI tools with the company's products. Krishna emphasized that the firm's strategy involves selecting optimal solutions without rigid ties to specific technology providers.

The company is also continuing to develop its consulting business, having signed contracts worth $6 billion with clients interested in implementing generative AI, the authors of the material claim. At the same time, IBM notes the risks associated with changes in the macroeconomic situation and tariff policy.

Krishna stated that the impact of trade tariffs on IBM's business is limited, as key products are manufactured in the USA. However, he acknowledged that a decrease in demand for consulting may require a strategy adjustment if the consequences of tariffs exceed 10%.
