Deep Tide TechFlow News, on May 3rd, according to a blog post by Vitalik Buterin, he suggested enhancing protocol resilience by simplifying the consensus layer and execution layer. In terms of the consensus layer, the new design will adopt a 3-slot finality mechanism, removing concepts such as independent time slots and epochs. Regarding the execution layer, Ethereum will consider replacing the existing Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V or other simpler virtual machines. Additionally, Ethereum will unify the use of the same erasure codes, serialization formats, and tree structures to further simplify the protocol. Vitalik stated that these improvements will bring the complexity of Ethereum's key consensus code closer to that of Bitcoin.
