Chinese President Xi Jinping has barely returned to Beijing after an important tour of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia when the United States announced plans to impose tariffs of up to 3.521% on solar panels imported from four Southeast Asian countries. The tariffs are expected to be applied to companies from Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The aim of imposing the tariffs is declared to be the necessity to counter Chinese subsidies and dumping. In June, the tariffs will be reviewed by the International Trade Commission and, if the decision is positive, ratified. After that, the U.S. Department of Commerce will be able to apply the tariffs.
The U.S. continues efforts to isolate Beijing in foreign trade relations and to prevent the strengthening of cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries.
