Slovenia is planning to raise its crypto tax from 10% to 25% on trading profits, starting January 1, 2026 โ€” if the new law is approved.

โžค Who will be taxed?

Youโ€™ll be taxed 25% on profits if you:

Sell crypto for fiat (like euros or dollars)

Use crypto to buy goods or services

Send crypto to someone else (as a gift or payment)

โžค Whoโ€™s safe from the tax?

No tax if you:

Swap crypto for another (e.g. BTC โž ETH)

Move crypto between your own wallets

But you must report earnings yearly and keep all transaction records.

โžค Why the backlash?

Lawmaker Jernej Vrtovec says this could:

Slow down Sloveniaโ€™s crypto growth

Drive away young talent and investors

Hurt innovation in the sector

โžค Government's view?

Finance Minister Klemen Boลกtjanฤiฤ argues:

Itโ€™s about fair taxation

Crypto is highly speculative

Tax rules should be similar to stocks or real estate

โžค Crypto in Slovenia (2025 forecast):

98,000+ users expected

$2.8M in market revenue

Tax could bring in โ‚ฌ2.5M to โ‚ฌ25M per year

Will this bold tax move protect fairness or scare off investors? What do you think?
