Dominic Williams, founder and chief scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, believes that we are entering a new era where developers are no longer traditional developers, and the 'Internet Computer' will replace platforms like AWS by providing something entirely different: a truly open internet.

Williams stated during an interview with The Street roundtable host Rob Nelson that the Internet Computer can realize what he calls 'self-written applications,' where ordinary people just need to converse with AI, and it can build its own web services.

"We are at a turning point," Williams said. "In the future, end users... will actually only choose a self-written application platform."

He explained that today, the creation of applications depends on developers choosing familiar IT stacks, such as Amazon Web Services, but this is changing rapidly.

"Developers will become ordinary people conversing with AI, and the AI will end-to-end build and coordinate their web applications, internet services, or other functionalities."

But apart from AI application creation, Williams believes the Internet Computer already offers capabilities that Amazon cannot match, such as a truly decentralized social network.

He pointed out that OpenChat is a tokenized social network running on the Internet Computer.

"There is no company behind it, and it can update itself," Williams said. "Developers propose updates... and the community actually reviews these proposed updates and approves or rejects them."

He said this decentralized governance is only possible under the unique security and architecture of the Internet Computer network.

"You can be sure it won't be hacked," Williams said. "It has been running successfully for years, and there is no cybersecurity system protecting it - even though it is tokenized."

He emphasized that although OpenChat is a crypto network holding digital assets, it has never suffered major hacking attacks or vulnerabilities, even though high-value targets may be monitored by sophisticated threat actors like the Lazarus Group.

Williams believes this is a model for a new type of internet service - entirely community-owned, driven by AI, and built on infrastructure fundamentally different from traditional cloud.

He said, "This gives you an understanding of how a new type of computing platform can enable new types of internet services."
