On local time this past Monday, global users experienced a massive outage on platform X, causing many users to be unable to use the service normally, with error messages continuously popping up on their screens. According to Downdetector, the number of complaints about platform X surged to 40,000 at one point, and the service disruption lasted for several hours.
A hacker organization called 'Dark Storm' has come forward to 'claim' this attack. It is said that this organization has connections to Russia, and they claimed they would incapacitate platform X, which they indeed accomplished!
Are hacker organizations coming to the forefront?
The cybersecurity company SpyoSecure claimed that the leader of Dark Storm posted on Telegram announcing this attack and boasted about taking X offline; however, the organization's Telegram channel was closed for violating platform policies. Nevertheless, screenshots of the evidence of the attack are still circulating online.
It is reported that this attack utilized a typical Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, rendering many people unable to access platform X at all. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of the technical team, the platform's functions have now been successfully restored.
Interestingly, the IP address of this hacker organization has been traced to the 'Ukrainian region'. Whether the hackers are deliberately misleading or whether there is more to the story remains unknown. Meanwhile, this attack has been confirmed by Elon Musk, although he did not disclose many details.
Entrepreneur Ed Krassenstein revealed that he had direct communication with the leader of Dark Storm. The hackers claimed that this attack was merely a 'display of force' and not politically motivated. However, Dark Storm's history is not simple; they have been active since 2023, targeting NATO countries multiple times, and are known for their pro-Palestinian stance.
Is it due to a strong political background?
There is a bigger background to this matter! Recently, protests have erupted against Musk's Tesla factories across the country, even leading to damage. All of this is connected to the 'Down with Tesla' movement, which arose because Musk's 'Department of Government Efficiency' (DOGE) canceled some government agencies. Protesters are very unhappy with Musk's influence in the Trump administration.
Musk also accused five radical organizations of orchestrating these protests. The names of these organizations sound quite 'hardcore': Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project, and Democratic Socialists of America.
