Co-founder of Tornado Cash Alexey Pertsev will be released

Co-founder of Tornado Cash Alexey Pertsev announced that he will be released on February 7, 2025, after a Dutch court's decision to suspend his pretrial detention. The release will be accompanied by electronic monitoring, as the developer reported on social network X (formerly Twitter).

Previously, Pertsev was found guilty of creating and supporting the crypto mixer Tornado Cash, which, according to the prosecution, led to the laundering of $2.2 billion. In May 2024, the court sentenced him to 64 months of imprisonment and the confiscation of assets worth $2 million, including a vehicle. Pertsev denies his guilt and has already filed an appeal.

The developer's lawyers had previously petitioned for his release on bail while the appeal was being considered, but the court refused, despite the defense's arguments. Now, after the suspension of detention, the defense hopes for a more favorable outcome.
