This week, the Manhattan Federal Court is set to begin trial. Uranium Finance: Prosecutors say that Maryland cybersecurity consultant Jonathan Spalletta (alias Cthulhon) exploited smart contract vulnerabilities twice in April 2021 to withdraw approximately $1.4 million and $53.3 million from the BNB Chain’s AMM. The funds were later routed through Tornado Cash. From the outset, the defense attacked the question of “whose finger was on the keyboard,” arguing that the attribution had not yet been established. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District, in 2025, has seized assets related to the case worth about $31 million; at present, it is only opening statements, and there is no verdict yet.
A DeFi vulnerability case from five years ago is only now truly before a jury today.
