The legal head of MetaMask’s parent company, Consensys, Matt Corva, said he had disclosed a security incident involving a North Korean hacker who had joined the team. According to PANews, the hacker, identified as Tyler Knapp, entered MetaMask as a contractor via a long-term human resources staffing provider and bypassed the company’s direct background checks.
Corva said the hacker worked at the company for a month and contributed to the development of the wallet’s fiat on- and off-ramp gateway feature. The person was detected by the company’s security monitoring after unusual IP activity and behavior.
Consensys then revoked all access permissions and suspended all product launches supported by the responsible party. Corva said no significant data or fund loss had been recorded so far.
