Nubank decided to automatically convert the remaining Nucoin balances into โlucky numbersโ by September 30. In practice, this ends the projectโs last functional connection with the cryptocurrency market.
Nucoin was created in 2022, launched on Polygon in 2023, and once reached a peak of nearly 1,900%. Then, in September 2024, Nubank stopped buying and selling the token and turned the project into a rewards program.
Customers with at least R$ 100 in Nucoin had until December 2024 to convert their balances into Bitcoinโธ
$BTC โธ or
$USDC . Those who didnโt, or had an amount below the minimum, stayed in the program. These are exactly the balances that will now be automatically converted into lucky numbers.
๐ฅ The point generating discussion is this:
In the announcement, it does not clearly explain how much each Nucoin is worth in this conversion or what the exact ratio is between the old balance and the amount of numbers received.
The new numbers will only be used to enter Nubankโs own raffles. They:
โธ have no exchange rate
โธ cannot be bought or sold
โธ cannot be sent to a personal wallet
That means Nucoin will definitively stop functioning as a tradable digital asset.
๐ This is a huge turning point for a project that started with blockchain, cashback, token freezing, trading within the app, and plans to expand its utility to millions of customers.
Now the question is:
Is Nubank simplifying a program that has lost its meaning as crypto, or have the old users lost an opportunity to choose what to do with their balances?
