Tether brings 15 mining companies together to launch MDK, an open interoperability layer for Bitcoin mining
According to an announcement on Tether’s website on October 24:
1. Fifteen mining hardware manufacturers, mining pools, and operators—including Bitmain, MicroBT, Canaan, Bitdeer, Foundry, F2Pool, Luxor, OCEAN, and Proto (Block)—have committed to maintaining their own MDK Workers, translating their proprietary interfaces into a unified layer.
2. The goal is to let monitoring systems, operations teams, and AI agents integrate without having to build new connections for every hardware provider, reducing fragmentation across mining farms.
3. Tether’s QVAC mining agent is already running on MDK. MDK reached v0.11 around the Lugano Plan ₿ event, with a stable 1.0 release targeted for year-end.
4. This represents an industry commitment and a push to advance an open-source standard; it does not mean that every company’s Worker is already fully deployed in production.
This adds to the narrative around
$BTC mining-farm automation, but does not change the short-term fundamentals for hashrate or Bitcoin’s price.
