## September Bonus: the figure that shines in bolivars, but melts in dollars
This September 4, Plataforma Patria began distributing the Unique Family Bonus corresponding to September 2026. The official announcement says the amount is **Bs. 12,075** or its equivalent in foreign currency of **US$ 14.95** at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV). The adjustment represents an increase of 8.05% compared to August, when the bonus was Bs. 11,175.
But will beneficiaries really receive more money? If we look at the hard numbers, the answer is not so simple. In a country with double-digit monthly inflation and more than 500% year-on-year inflation, the nominal increase in bolivars barely offsets the loss of purchasing power. The bonus, being pegged to the dollar (US$ 14.95), remains the same in hard currency as the previous month, even though the government presents it as an “increase.” For Venezuelans who depend on this aid, the reality is that it is still a very small amount compared with the cost of the food basket.
