Datanets — shared, tokenized datasets

Think of a Datanet as a shared dataset managed by a community. Contributors can add data (images, text, annotations) and get rewarded when models train on that data. Everything is done transparently, with rules encoded in smart contracts.

Proof of Attribution (PoA) & provenance

OpenLedger uses cryptographic proofs to show who did what—which data point came from whom, which model iterations used what data. This record of provenance ensures that when a model yields value, it’s possible to trace and reward everyone involved.

Model Registry & Agents

Once you train a model on one or more Datanets, you can publish it in a registry. The registry records the model’s lineage, version history, terms of use, and more. If someone builds an “agent” (i.e. a service powered by your model), they too can be configured to pay for usage on-chain.

Behind the scenes: How it works

OpenLedger is built as a Layer-1 blockchain (its own chain), with strong ties to the Ethereum world so people can use the wallets and tools they already know.

Here’s a simplified sketch:

1. Dataset & contributions: People submit data or annotations, each tagged and signed. Smart contracts enforce contribution rules and track provenance.

2. Training / compute: While heavy compute may run off-chain (in specialized infrastructure), the metadata (e.g. training job issued, result hash, which data used) is recorded on-chain.

3. Model publication: Models get published into a registry with all metadata and terms (how users can access / pay).

4. Usage / inference: When a developer or app uses the model (via an agent or API), that usage is logged and payments are automatically distributed to data, model authors, validators, etc.

5. Governance & staking: The system includes token-based governance, and validators / nodes stake tokens to participate in securing, validating or hosting.
The key is blending on-chain transparency (for attribution, payment, rules) with off-chain efficiency (for heavy compute and data storage).

Economics: how people make money in OpenLedger

OpenLedger uses a native token (often called OPEN or something similar) that powers payments, rewards, governance, and staking. Here’s how different participants can benefit:
