TermMax points to a signal most RWA discourse misses: deposits only prove someone was willing to hold an asset — that's a custody decision, not a pricing decision. Borrowing is different. It costs money, repeatedly, so it reveals what the market actually thinks an asset is worth as collateral.

TermMax's structure — collateral type → loan demand → fixed rate → repeat borrowing — surfaces this almost by accident. Some RWAs will pull in large TVL with little borrowing against them; others will support smaller TVL but generate consistent loans at competitive fixed rates. Those are different kinds of adoption, and only one reflects real economic conviction.

The catch is incentives. Subsidized rates or reward programs can manufacture borrowing activity that looks like demand but isn't. So the real test is what survives once incentives fade: does borrowing continue, do rates stay competitive without subsidy, and do borrowers roll positions at maturity rather than exiting.

If all three hold, that's a far stronger signal than TVL alone — it means fixed-rate loan markets are pricing the asset, not just storing it. RWA legitimacy onchain may end up measured less by what gets tokenized and more by what people keep choosing to borrow against, at rates nobody had to pay them to accept.

I’ve been reading through Dusk’s docs, and one thing really stood out to me.

When people hear “privacy blockchain,” I think it’s easy to assume that everything is automatically hidden. But that’s not really the case.

Dusk has different ways for transactions to work. Moonlight is the transparent account model, while Phoenix is built around shielded transactions, where things like the sender, receiver, and amount aren’t openly visible to everyone.

What I found more interesting was the idea of view keys.

You can keep transaction details private from the public, while still allowing an authorized person to access that information when there’s a valid reason.

For financial applications, that actually makes a lot of sense.

You probably don’t want your entire financial history sitting there for anyone to inspect, but at the same time, a regulated company may need to give certain information to an auditor or regulator.

That feels more practical than simply saying “everything is private.”

For me, the bigger question is becoming: who should be able to see the data, and when?

As more regulated assets move onchain, I think this kind of flexible privacy could become much more important.

Fixed Rates, Real Promise: My Take on TermMax

I've seen plenty of fixed-rate lending protocols try to break into DeFi, and TermMax fits that mold with a twist. Instead of just offering fixed-term borrowing and lending like Notional or Yield Protocol, it layers in options-style structured products on top, letting users express rate or volatility views instead of just parking capital passively.

What I like: fixed-rate markets solve a real problem. Variable rates on Aave or Compound can spike hard during liquidity crunches, and that unpredictability turns off treasuries and risk-averse capital. Locking in a rate upfront, for both lender and borrower, is a genuinely useful primitive as more institutional money eyes on-chain yield.

What gives me pause: I've seen this category struggle with liquidity fragmentation before. Splitting capital across multiple maturities is much harder than pooling it in one variable-rate market, and thin liquidity at any given maturity kills the fixed-rate value proposition fast. Add rollover risk and the extra complexity of the options layer, and execution becomes everything.

Bottom line: the concept is sound and the space is underserved, but I'd want to see real liquidity depth, sustained usage, and a solid audit history before treating this as more than a promising experiment.
