Users ask for Liu Yifei, and Tibo serves up 10 Northeastern “Yu Jies.” It’s not that OpenAI doesn’t know what users want—it’s that they genuinely don’t have it. If Claude weren’t so heavy-handed with account bans, users would all leave for good. I used to think Codex would probably get a new model within a month at most and catch up with Claude. Now? It’s not even in the running.

AI can reverse-engineer software and firmware. If Bambu Lab can bring down the price of 3D scanners and make them affordable to ordinary people, reverse-engineering PCBs and casing molds will become even easier. What will be left of business models in this world? Private data, economies of scale, and large-scale infrastructure—all of these are destined to belong to the state. Individuals seem set to become completely worthless. AI is transforming the productive forces, and in turn will drive changes in the relations of production. Stop paying social insurance and wait for the government to give people money unconditionally once those relations have changed. AI makes it possible for us to stop paying social insurance—a closed loop.

An odd rule in some regions’ social security systems: the Z index Most people would assume that, among similar groups of people outside the public sector in the same region, those who contribute more toward their pension should receive more, and those who contribute less should receive less. But in reality, that’s not always the case. When calculating pensions, gaps in contributions don’t simply mean that a few years are left out of the total. The key lies in the two formulas below. 1> How the actual Z index is calculated Actual Z = Sum of contribution indices over the years ÷ “Required contribution period” The key point: the denominator is the “required contribution period,” not the “actual contribution period.” During gaps in contributions, your contribution base is zero, but the time without contributions is still included in the denominator. As a result, your Z index keeps shrinking over time during periods when you aren’t contributing. 2> How it affects your basic pension Monthly basic pension = Cavg × (1 + Actual Z) ÷ 2 × (Actual contribution period + Deemed contribution period) × 1% Ignoring all the other factors and looking only at “Actual Z”: A lower Actual Z means a lower monthly basic pension. 3> The end result Someone who pays into social security intermittently for 20 years before retirement will receive less than someone who pays continuously for the 20 years before retirement. Why was it designed this way? ~~~ ------- It’s hard not to think of many staking projects: users who joined early must be penalized if they unstake partway through, raising the cost of exiting and withdrawing funds. Note: The Z index rule applies only in some regions; it is not used nationwide.
An odd rule in some regions’ social security systems: the Z index

Most people would assume that, among similar groups of people outside the public sector in the same region, those who contribute more toward their pension should receive more, and those who contribute less should receive less. But in reality, that’s not always the case.

When calculating pensions, gaps in contributions don’t simply mean that a few years are left out of the total. The key lies in the two formulas below.

1> How the actual Z index is calculated

Actual Z = Sum of contribution indices over the years ÷ “Required contribution period”

The key point: the denominator is the “required contribution period,” not the “actual contribution period.” During gaps in contributions, your contribution base is zero, but the time without contributions is still included in the denominator.

As a result, your Z index keeps shrinking over time during periods when you aren’t contributing.

2> How it affects your basic pension

Monthly basic pension = Cavg × (1 + Actual Z) ÷ 2 × (Actual contribution period + Deemed contribution period) × 1%

Ignoring all the other factors and looking only at “Actual Z”:
A lower Actual Z means a lower monthly basic pension.

3> The end result

Someone who pays into social security intermittently for 20 years before retirement will receive less than someone who pays continuously for the 20 years before retirement.

Why was it designed this way? ~~~

-------

It’s hard not to think of many staking projects: users who joined early must be penalized if they unstake partway through, raising the cost of exiting and withdrawing funds.

Note: The Z index rule applies only in some regions; it is not used nationwide.
I wonder whether companies currently working on hardware have fully adopted AI. After destroying the software industry, even hardware engineers—who once took pride in being able to coast on their debugging experience for the rest of their careers—are slowly being replaced.

Making Money with AI For ordinary people, AI is more about leveling technical barriers, boosting productivity, and expanding what they can do than creating opportunities in entirely new fields. The reason people keep saying you can’t make money with AI is that they think AI will create more opportunities in new fields—but those aren’t areas ordinary people can get into. Creating a new field makes the pie bigger; ordinary people can only make the pie better. In other words, you should already have your own way of making money before AI comes along. With AI, you can significantly cut costs, boost efficiency, and increase productivity. More of your profit comes from what AI replaces: cutting more staff and reducing your reliance on technology. Those rigid expenses you used to have are now a source of profit. As for new fields that anyone can get into, the only idea I can think of is building a website and selling Token memberships.

This soft router that helped me break out of my information bubble back in the day is still going for 400–500 yuan on Xianyu. Would it be a good idea to trade it for a GL.iNet MT3600BE?

One more genuinely life-saving trick for a critical moment: in first-tier cities, you can sign up for medical insurance after you get sick and start using it right away If you fall seriously ill and need long-term hospital treatment, you can sign up for medical insurance in a first-tier city and use it straight away. There’s no so-called three-month waiting period or any of that nonsense—at least, that was the case five years ago. Years ago, I spent a year or two in and out of hospitals with a serious illness. Almost all my fellow patients had Beijing medical insurance. I was puzzled at the time: how was that possible when we were all from different parts of the country? Later, I found out in our patient group that everyone had signed up after getting sick and started using it as soon as they enrolled. Then, in 2020, the person who had been helping everyone illegally obtain Beijing medical insurance was arrested, and everyone in the patient group panicked. Would our insurance be frozen? Would we have to pay the money back? What would we do if we couldn’t afford treatment? Fortunately, things turned out well. The person who arranged the illegal enrollments went to prison, but the sick people were exempt from liability. You don’t punish people who are on the verge of death; none of us knew if we’d see tomorrow. Stability overrides everything. The next problem was finding somewhere to handle our social insurance payments. At the time, there was a climate of fear around crackdowns on third-party payment arrangements. Everyone did everything they could to stay alive: you came up with a clever scheme, I found a way around the rules. Who cared if it was legal? We just had to survive. Those with connections found someone to register them under; those without connections registered companies themselves and paid through them. Of the eight men in our group back then, seven signed up for temporary social insurance while they were sick. I was the only one who paid through a regular job. If we hadn’t found that loophole, the number of people who died might have been more than four. Medical insurance only covers treatment. How do you manage expenses outside the hospital? If you have no connections, crowdfunding is never going to raise enough. In fact, the local civil affairs bureau can provide a safety net—even rent receipts can be submitted for reimbursement. The catch is that you have to break the rules. Stability overrides everything. No one can stop you from getting treatment in Beijing; if things become unstable, local officials are in serious trouble. Of course, the downside is that the next time you go to Beijing, someone will be assigned to escort you in and out. The upside is that your travel, living expenses, and all sorts of other costs will be reimbursed. ----------- This world has never rewarded people for blindly following the rules ~ Soon, there’ll be one more person in this world who has to get a hip replacement because taking too many immunosuppressive steroids caused avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Last month I stopped paying into social security and started collecting unemployment benefits. After spending so long in crypto, people’s minds really do change, and they become hard to manage. If you’d asked me two years ago, I would never have made a decision that went against my ancestors’ teachings. After playing around with so many altcoin projects, I started applying the tactics I used to compete with the whales to the real world. Turns out, wherever you are, the ways of protecting your own interests are pretty much the same. That’s also why project teams work so hard to control the token supply and keep tokens from circulating. In the real world, the “chips” include ideologies, people moving around, and money flowing in and out. I can collect unemployment benefits for nearly two years. I’m planning to use that time to watch how the project develops before deciding what to do next. Also: banks have gotten so lazy that they’ve even shortened “unemployment benefits” to “unemployment money.” I’m speechless. P.S. Everyone, make sure you pay for health insurance. For low-income families, it can be a matter of life and death at a critical moment.

AI Money-Saving Tips: Reverse-Engineering Firmware with “One Person + AI” At the end of August, I had a need to reverse-engineer some PCB firmware. I contacted several sellers on Taobao, and the quotes for reading the firmware were around 5,000 yuan. Some sellers simply disappeared without quoting after receiving the materials (presumably because they thought the time investment wasn’t worth it). If I wanted a completely new PCB design and prototype, plus brand-new firmware, the quote would be 30,000–50,000 yuan. With Codex, there was no way I was going to waste that kind of money—I’d do it myself. Hardware and materials: 1> J-LINK Mini — 490 yuan 2> HOTO soldering iron — 420 yuan 3> Multimeter — 48 yuan 4> PCB holder — 63 yuan 5> Vernier calipers — 45 yuan (Xianyu) 6> Hot air gun — 80 yuan (bought on Xianyu; it wasn’t any good, so I sold it for 70) 7> Soldering adapters, Dupont wires, tweezers, and assorted bits — 100 yuan (approximately) Total spent: 1,176 yuan Step 1: Read the firmware through reverse engineering In theory, the standard J-Link interface wasn’t encrypted, so I could simply read the firmware and give it to AI for analysis. Unfortunately, the original PCB design was pretty bizarre, and I couldn’t read any data at all. With no other choice, I started Step 2: Redesign the PCB The schematic designed by AI clearly felt over-engineered. It piled on components to achieve the functionality, and since it had to fit inside the original device, the PCB size was fixed. There were so many components that I couldn’t fit them all on the board. With no other choice again, I decided to copy the board and then make changes to the original design. Board-copying process: Identify the main chips and the connections to the large pads on the connectors (the multimeter wasn’t convenient for measuring the small pads). Codex guided the measurement process. First, I gave AI the datasheets for all the chips and asked it to determine the overall approach and rules for taking measurements. Then I followed its instructions and kept sending it the test results. In the end, AI used the chip datasheets and recommended standard designs to reverse-engineer the circuit schematic. While copying the board, I discovered one of the original board’s bizarre design choices: the two JTAG download wires were in different places. So I used Dupont wires to connect multiple pins, and a miracle happened—the result I wanted in Step 1: the firmware was read successfully. With the firmware and 90% of the circuit-board schematic, AI analyzed everything and produced a 100% reconstructed board design in one go (I haven’t sent it for fabrication yet, but it should be fine). If I compress the entire replication process, it took about three days. Most of the time was wasted waiting for equipment deliveries. One day I realized I needed tweezers; the next, I realized I needed a clamp. Each time, delivery took two or three days. Also, getting a PCB fabricated is incredibly convenient now. Just register an account with JLCPCB, select the parameters like you would when shopping on Taobao, and submit the board with one click. Codex computer use can handle this entire process. ------------- “1,200 yuan in material costs + AI” vs. “5,000 yuan firmware-reading fee” “1,200 yuan in material costs + 3,000 yuan fabrication fee + AI” vs. “30,000–50,000 yuan design fee” The difference between the two is the value AI creates. AI’s most immediately useful money-saving (or money-making) feature is finding discount codes. I started paying $49U a month for a Chainstack node subscription in July. If the subscription isn’t producing anything tangible, I’m just playing around. Before renewing in August, I asked Codex: “Does Chainstack offer any subscription discounts? It’s a bit pricey.” Answer: Two 50%-off codes, STABLE50 and ROBINHOOD50. That saves you 25U—go use them. Back to yesterday’s question about Grokbot monitoring Binance Alpha and notifying friends: “Why go to all that trouble just to get an alert when someone posts a tweet?” You can just search for discount codes yourself. How does that show the value of AI? You’re really overselling it, bro. Trust me: if AI weren’t taking care of these little tasks, you wouldn’t bother doing them yourself. And if you spent every day handling these little tasks, chances are you wouldn’t have time to think about more important things.

The compensation amount reflects how confident manufacturers are in the safety of their own products. No amount of expert safety education every day can match a substantial increase in the compensation stipulated for product bugs. If they don’t even believe their products are absolutely safe, it’s clearly unreasonable for them to mislead users into believing that they are. Don’t believe what they say. Look at what they do.

Kaito’s biggest fatal flaw right now is that it can’t display leaderboard rankings in real time. Real-time rankings keep participants’ attention focused on the competition, and timely positive feedback gives Yappers more motivation to fight for a spot. At the same time, they can attract more traffic by correcting errors promptly while keeping the ongoing debate over whether the rankings are fair alive. After all, even negative attention is still attention. This process can also help build everyone’s trust in the leaderboard. Everyone knows Kaito can’t assess the quality of tweets. ICT engagement accounts for most of the score, and you might even make the leaderboard without posting at all—then, at the end of a cycle, they give you a ranking. It’s like having no probation period at work: you do the job for a year, then they tell you you’re not good enough and don’t pay you a cent. For participants, the time, effort, and opportunity costs are just too high.

What exactly does “principal protection” mean in AIA staking? @DeAgentAI’s latest moves over the past couple of days: the $AIA/KRW trading pair has been added to Bithumb and is now live, while the official website has also launched principal-protected staking. Listing on an exchange is easy to understand. What people really want to know is how such a high 50% return is calculated, and how the principal is protected. Staking rules: A few important points to understand: ▰ The protected amount is in USDC, not the original AIA When you participate, you pay in USDC on BNB Chain. The system uses the real-time price to buy and stake AIA. The lock-up period is 12 months, and you can’t withdraw early. At maturity, the platform will return the same amount of USDC as you initially paid, in accordance with the terms. You’ll receive AIA rewards during the lock-up period. Here’s the key point: the AIA originally purchased and staked will not be returned. You don’t get both your USDC back and your original tokens at maturity. Also, you can’t stake AIA you already hold—you must purchase AIA through the program. ▰ 50% is a reward based on the amount of AIA, not an annualized return denominated in USDC Suppose you pay 1,000 USDC and the system buys and stakes 10,000 AIA. If you choose the Ultra pool and receive 5,000 AIA in rewards over the full term, you’ll get 1,000 USDC back at maturity, in accordance with the terms. The value of those 5,000 reward tokens depends on the token price. So when you see “up to 50%,” it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to earn 500 USDC on a 1,000 USDC deposit over one year. ▰ Three pools, with different reward rates and start dates 1> Ultra: 50% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 3 2> Boost: 40% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 2 3> Fast: 35% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 1 Rewards are then distributed automatically in batches according to the rules. All three pools have a 12-month lock-up. What exactly does “principal protection” mean in AIA staking?

@DeAgentAI’s latest moves over the past couple of days: the $AIA /KRW trading pair has been added to Bithumb and is now live, while the official website has also launched principal-protected staking.

Listing on an exchange is easy to understand. What people really want to know is how such a high 50% return is calculated, and how the principal is protected.

Staking rules:

A few important points to understand:

▰ The protected amount is in USDC, not the original AIA

When you participate, you pay in USDC on BNB Chain.

▰ 50% is a reward based on the amount of AIA, not an annualized return denominated in USDC

Suppose you pay 1,000 USDC and the system buys and stakes 10,000 AIA.

▰ Three pools, with different reward rates and start dates

1> Ultra: 50% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 3
2> Boost: 40% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 2
3> Fast: 35% in rewards over the full year, starting in month 1

Rewards are then distributed automatically in batches according to the rules.

All three pools have a 12-month lock-up. The only difference is when the first reward is distributed.

Codex has gotten so stupid that it's completely unusable. After multiple rounds of conversation, its output is just a pile of mush. My strategy: use Grokbot's brainpower to come up with a plan, and let Codex do the grunt work.
