HiTHIUM moves sodium-ion storage closer to grid-scale commercialization

๐Ÿ”‹ HiTHIUM has unveiled its โˆžPower N4.0MWh sodium-ion energy storage system, powered by the new 785 Ah N785Ah cell, nearly five times the capacity of the N162Ah cell introduced in late 2024.

โšก According to the company, the new cell can deliver 20,000 cycles and support 2โ€“8 hours of discharge. The 4 MWh system uses a stacked architecture that reduces site footprint by around 30% and supports PCS voltages from 800โ€“1,500 V.

๐Ÿญ A notable feature is that the N785Ah cell can be produced on existing 1,000 Ah LFP production lines, reducing the need for entirely new manufacturing capacity. HiTHIUM plans to begin large-scale production and deliveries in 2027.

๐Ÿ”Ž Sodium-ion is being positioned as a complement to LFP for longer-duration energy storage. However, claims of 20,000 cycles, a 30-year design life and LCOS of RMB 0.1/kWh will still need to be validated through commercial operation.
