【How to Become Less Impulsive?】
1. Watch documentaries.
Scenery, culture, history, food.
2. Organize and tidy up living and working areas, keeping them neat and orderly.
Some people may enjoy finding what they want from a mess. But for me, being in a chaotic environment makes me a bit anxious.
3. Learn to sleep early and wake up early, and try the method of 'forcing yourself to sleep early by waking up early'.
Because everyone's sleep time and the time they stay awake are generally fixed, if you persist in waking up early for a few days, you will feel sleepy around the same time at night.
4. Be a digester of knowledge, not a storage unit.
Being well-read is not about how many web pages you browse or how many articles you read. It is about being able to thoroughly read a book, a news piece, or an event, distill some viewpoints, and form your own thoughts.
5. Focus your attention on your own life and work, and do not overly concern yourself with others' lives.
I see many answers mentioning to close social circles and limit social software use. I don't quite agree; ordinary people rarely manage to do that.
I think the point is not to completely abandon it, but to learn to extract useful things for oneself, rather than just using it as a leisure tool.
Many of my things come from learning on Zhihu, Bilibili, and Weibo.
Regarding social circles, do not immediately check when you see a little red dot. This not only wastes your time but also takes away your energy and attention.
The sharp-tongued Zhang Ailing said: People who feel empty inside like to pry into others' privacy.
5. Reject useless socializing.
On weekends, you have prepared a fruit platter and drinks at home, and you open your computer to watch the movie "Amélie". At this moment, a colleague calls: "Want to go shopping? The mall is having a sale!······ Oh, just come, consider it as keeping me company!"
Think about it: Do I really need to buy something from the mall? Is this colleague a really good friend of mine?
No, not really, then just refuse.
Time, health, and energy should not be wasted on things and people that are not particularly important.
(If it’s a company team-building event, that’s a different story~)
6. Do handicrafts.
Gabriel García Márquez, the author of "One Hundred Years of Solitude," said that when he can't write, he likes to use a screwdriver to fix doors and sockets at home and paint doors green.
This may vary from person to person, but such repetitive, mindless manual work can alleviate impatience to some extent.
7. Accept yourself, learn to like yourself, from the outside to the inside.
The first step in liking yourself starts with accepting your appearance.
Internally, consciously improve, learn to have your own opinions, and not just follow others; learn to have the 'courage to be disliked', as a human, I must first be happy myself.
Knowing oneself is a lifelong endeavor; the more one can continually understand oneself, the less external matters can disturb them.
8. Do not get entangled.
This face cream is on sale today; should I buy it? But what if it’s cheaper next time?
For shopping, excessive entanglement may be due to temporarily not having enough money, so take a step back and think: Do I need it within a week?
For people and matters, excessive entanglement may stem from caring too much about others' feelings and their opinions of oneself.
Then please refer to the previous point.
9. Read books, build your own little universe.
I asked a friend who drinks: After drinking with your buddies, do you complain about recent troubles together?
The friend said: Yes,
I: Does complaining feel good?
Friend: Of course it does!
I: Then do those troubles and problems you complained about still exist after this drinking session?
Friend: ...Still there.
If asked what the difference is between those who read and those who don’t, I would first say: Those who read do not feel lonely.
Even if alone, they do not feel lonely.
Because through reading, they build their own universe and can use the experiences and principles of characters in books to compare and resolve their own issues.
They seek spiritual mentors themselves and can ultimately become their own mentors. However, the process from reading to learning to resolve one’s own problems is not a simple one.
I don’t oppose friends drinking together, but I don’t like complaining about troubles with others. Because even if you say it a hundred times without solving it, the troubles are still there, and one will still feel irritable and restless.
10. Keep accounts.
Where did all my money go?
There’s a term called “confusing accounts,” which means everything is disorganized.
Just like when I first started working, I felt busy and tired every day, but it seemed like there were no results. A pile of chaotic matters can appear to have many unfinished tasks, which can easily lead to restlessness and anxiety.
However, once you learn to organize and prioritize your work, things will become clear, and you won’t feel restless.
Work, life, and even emotions are the same.
