The United Kingdom is completing preparations for the transfer of its military contingent to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. This is reported by the British portal The I Paper, citing sources in the British Ministry of Defence.

"The United Kingdom is ramping up preparations to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, procuring equipment and finalizing deployment plans. Officials are confident that a peace agreement appears to be closer than ever, as American negotiators prepare to present a proposal backed by Ukraine to the Kremlin," the publication writes.

According to the portal, the British Ministry of Defence is currently trying to understand what period of time will be allocated for the redeployment of the contingent and is selecting potential locations for the deployment of soldiers.

It is noted that this process requires detailed planning due to the complexity of logistics and the need to ensure the safety of personnel. One of the sources within the coalition of countries interested in supporting Ukraine said:

"Work on these plans has been ongoing for a considerable time, and with the approaching real possibility of a ceasefire, the pace of preparations has significantly accelerated, and the plans have become more concrete and detailed."

In the event of a successful ceasefire, the redeployment of the contingent will not only strengthen the security of the region but also create conditions for further recovery and cooperation.

According to sources, London is most likely not going to redeploy troops already stationed in other countries, such as Estonia, but will prefer to send soldiers directly from British territory.

It is claimed that in the event of a need for rapid response to the situation in Ukraine, the 16th Air Assault Brigade, which contains the British Army's rapid response forces, is planned to be deployed.

Moreover, according to the existing plans, the so-called "coalition of the willing" is unlikely to distribute its forces along the entire line of contact in Ukraine, as there simply will not be enough personnel for this.

British peacekeepers in Ukraine

Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed his country's commitment to "deploy troops on the ground" in Ukraine.

"The United Kingdom is prepared to deploy troops on the ground to protect Kyiv if there is a cessation of hostilities," said its representative. When asked whether the United Kingdom is prepared to deploy its forces in Ukraine, he replied:

"Is the United Kingdom still ready to deploy troops on the ground in the event of a cessation of hostilities? The answer is yes. This is our current position."
