What makes SUI deflationary? A key component of Sui’s economic model is the Storage Fund, a mechanism that brings long-term sustainability to validators while also applying deflationary pressure on SUI. Here’s how it works: A portion of every transaction fee goes into the Storage Fund, which helps pay validators for the ongoing cost of storing onchain data over a long period of time. These storage fees are locked into the fund forever and only the staking rewards of the Storage Fund are used to pay validators. This reduces the liquid supply of SUI with every transaction. It’s a system that rewards network operators, aligns incentives, and steadily decreases circulating SUI as usage grows.
