Netflix has announced a new comedy titled One Attempt Remaining, centered on a divorced couple who discovers that the crypto they once won on a cruise is now worth millions — but they’ve forgotten the password.

Starring Jennifer Garner, the film follows the pair as they race against a 48-hour deadline to recover $35 million from their wallet before a claim from the U.S. SEC expires.

The storyline draws inspiration from real-world crypto mishaps, including former Ripple CTO Stefan Thomas, who was locked out of an IronKey hard drive containing 7,002 BTC and has only two password attempts left before the device erases itself.

The movie also echoes the infamous case of James Howells, who lost a drive with 8,000 BTC that accidentally ended up in a UK landfill. After years of legal battles, he has still been denied permission to search the site.

While crypto has appeared in various documentaries and TV series, this is one of the few Hollywood films to place the technology at the center of its story.
