On December 5, 2025, a rare event was recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain: 2000 $BTC was moved from the wallets of physical Casascius coins series 1 (2011–2013). These coins, created by Mike Caldwell (alias Casascius), contain a private key under a holographic sticker and are considered the most valuable collectible artifacts in the crypto world.

Transactions took place from 40 addresses, with 50 BTC from each. At the time of movement, bitcoins were worth about $207 million. The owner physically 'peeled' the coins by entering private keys and transferring funds to new SegWit addresses.

Since 2014, Keldwell has ceased issuance due to pressure from the US FinCEN. Today, of the 27,922 coins issued, only ~17,800 BTC remain unpeeled. Any activity from such addresses causes real excitement: in 2024, one coin of 1000 BTC from this series was sold at auction for $11 million at a premium to the spot price.

Who exactly woke up is unknown. It could be an early miner, a forgotten wallet, or inheritance. The main thing is that even after 13 years, the private keys work perfectly.
