#GENIUSAct The GENIUS Act (short for Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act) was signed into law on July 18, 2025.
It creates the first comprehensive U.S. federal framework for payment-stablecoins — those digital assets pegged to fiat (e.g., USD) used for payment & settlement.
Key requirements include:
100 % reserve backing in very liquid assets (USD or short-term US Treasuries).
Monthly disclosures of reserve composition.
Clear issuer licensing & supervision: only approved “permitted payment stablecoin issuers” may issue payment-stablecoins in the U.S. market.
It also aligns federal & state oversight and strengthens AML / compliance obligations for issuers."
