🇪🇺 The European Central Bank (ECB) confirms that the digital euro may be launched by 2029, and the development cost is expected to be €1.3 billion.
According to sources from Bloomberg, preparations are set to continue during this week's meeting in Italy, with the hope that a legal framework will be adopted by lawmakers over the next four years.
So far, only three central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) have been officially launched, in Nigeria, the Bahamas, and Jamaica, according to the American research center Atlantic Council.
