In the heart of the Gansu desert, China has activated a megasolar power plant with 30,000 heliostats (giant mirrors) pointing at two 200-meter towers. There, the sun is not reflected: it is concentrated like a laser.
This beam of energy heats a fluid of molten salt to more than 500 °C, which transforms into steam and moves turbines. Result:
