Two Suspects Charged in $600,000 USD "Wrench Attack" Targeting Bitcoin Trader
Two individuals have been charged in Tel Aviv for a violent "wrench attack" against a Bitcoin trader. This incident is part of a growing trend of physical attacks on crypto holders, with 2025 recording 52 incidents globally, a record high.
Details of the Attack and Damages
Prosecutors stated that the two attackers broke into the victim's home, claiming to be members of the "Karaja family" and initially demanded 500 $BTC (approximately $61 million USD). When the victim refused to provide wallet information, one of the attackers threatened the victim with a kitchen knife and stabbed them twice in the leg.
Subsequently, the victim was forced to grant access to their account, allowing the attackers to transfer $547,260 USD in Bitcoin and $42,248 USD in USDT. They also stole a Rolex watch worth $50,000, a laptop, a Trezor hardware wallet, and cash. Police arrested one suspect on 10/9 based on recorded evidence and security cameras.
Warning on Physical Security
Experts warn that the weak cooperation between the crypto community and law enforcement is exacerbating the situation, as crypto founders and investors are not being proactively protected. The increase in physical attacks indicates that security measures should not only be limited to cyberspace but also emphasized in real life. #scam
