The Ohio State Depository Board has approved a vendor to handle cryptocurrency payments, including Bitcoin, for state government fees and services. Secretary of State Frank LaRose praised the move as pushing Ohio to the forefront of the digital economy. Since April of this year, LaRose and Treasurer Robert Sprague have been working to promote the authorization of cryptocurrency payments, and this approval comes after months of effort. LaRose noted that the demand for cryptocurrency is growing, and his office processes hundreds of thousands of transactions each year. This initiative is part of Ohio's broader digital asset promotion plan, which includes the Blockchain Basic Law and the proposed strategic cryptocurrency reserve.
