According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on August 22, The Block reported that Interpol announced on Friday that its coordinated "Serengeti Operation 2.0" has successfully arrested 1,209 individuals suspected of cybercrime, who collectively targeted nearly 88,000 victims.
The operation began in June of this year and has thus far recovered $97.4 million in funds and dismantled 11,432 malicious infrastructures. During the operation, Zambian authorities dismantled a large-scale online investment scam that promised high returns through advertising campaigns, luring approximately 65,000 victims to invest in cryptocurrency, with an estimated scam amount reaching $300 million.
In Angola, investigators dismantled 25 cryptocurrency mining centers, arrested 60 Chinese citizens for illegally validating blockchain transactions, and seized mining and IT equipment valued at over $37 million.
The operation involved investigators from 18 African countries and the United Kingdom.
