North Wales Police in the UK have disclosed a case of cryptocurrency fraud, where the victim was induced to input their wallet recovery phrase on a phishing website after receiving a call from someone impersonating a senior police officer, resulting in approximately 2.8 million dollars worth of Bitcoin being stolen. The fraudsters falsely claimed that the victim's information appeared on a suspect's phone and tricked them into providing the recovery phrase under the pretense of 'assisting in asset protection', transferring the funds within minutes. Police emphasize that no institution will request recovery phrases and remind the public to be cautious of social engineering attacks. (TheBlock)
