Solana achieved a historic milestone by exceeding 100,000 transactions per second (TPS) on the mainnet during a stress test. According to Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of Helius, which develops tools for Solana, the network's block processed 43,016 successful transactions, reaching 107,540 TPS. This made Solana the first major blockchain to achieve a six-figure TPS on the mainnet. However, most transactions were 'noop' operations that do not reflect actual token transfers or complex operations.
Despite this, developers believe that Solana could theoretically support 80,000–100,000 TPS for real operations, such as transfers or oracle updates. The actual network throughput is around 1,050 TPS, as a significant portion of transactions consists of validator voting. The memecoin platform Pump.fun dominates the ecosystem, holding 62% of the total locked value.
The new Alpenglow consensus proposal could reduce block finalization time to 150 ms, further enhancing performance. This breakthrough highlights Solana's potential in scaling blockchains, although the network still relies on memecoins.
