🇺🇸🇷🇺 TRUMP-PUTIN SUMMIT: THE HIGH-SECURITY LOCATION CHOSEN FOR THE MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENTS
The historic summit will be at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, this Friday, August 15. The White House had to use a military facility because it was the only place that met the extreme security requirements for both leaders.
❄️ Why Alaska: a territory that was part of the Russian Empire until 1867 (sold for $7.2 million), it is now where East and West meet. During the Cold War, it was the frontline of defense with radars and missiles. Trump said he was "very pleased" that Putin is coming to U.S. territory instead of a neutral country.
Zelensky was NOT invited. Europe was not invited either. Trump said that the Ukrainian president "has gone to many meetings in 3 and a half years, nothing happened." European leaders will hold an emergency video conference on Wednesday to coordinate positions before being excluded.
⚠️ The logistics were a nightmare: peak tourist summer in Alaska, hotels full, limited options. Prominent Alaskans offered their private homes. The Alyeska resort in Girdwood blocked all rooms for Thursday and Friday. The Secret Service maintains the mystery for extreme security.
Trump says it will be a "listening session" to see Putin "face to face." If it works, he proposes an immediate trilateral meeting with Zelensky. He warned of "very severe consequences" if Putin refuses to end the war. The world watches as two nuclear powers decide the fate of Ukraine without Ukraine.
