OpenAI's ChatGPT app has earned $2 billion globally since launching in May 2023 on iOS and Android . On average, users spend $2.91 per download, with over 690 million installs. That shows people are willing to pay for AI on their phones.
From Jan–Jul 2025, users spent $1.35 billion, a massive 673% increase compared to the same time in 2024. That’s around $193 million per month!

Other AI chat apps, like Grok and Claude, are far behind. Microsoft’s Copilot is included too, but all of them combined make just a small fraction of ChatGPT’s revenue.
ChatGPT is still the top player in mobile AI, even as rivals try new features.
