Bitso, a Latin American leader in crypto-based financial services, announced the hiring of Luis Urrutia as the new Legal Director and Executive Vice President of Global Regulatory Affairs. The arrival of the executive, an international reference in financial regulation, strengthens the company's strategy to consolidate its culture of compliance and expand access to financial services in the region.
Master in Public Policy from the University of Chicago, Urrutia is considered one of the three most influential lawyers in Mexico in the field of financial regulation. With nearly a decade at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), he led the creation of the first national regulatory framework against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. He also served as Vice-President and President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), responsible for setting global standards for the prevention of financial crimes.

His career also includes prominent positions such as Legal Director of the Bank of Mexico and Deputy General Counsel of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he coordinated issues related to financial integrity, governance, fintech innovation, and combating corruption — a unique position for a Mexican lawyer in the organization.
"It is a great opportunity to be part of Bitso, a company that has been a reference in innovation and pioneering in the introduction of new digital products to expand access to financial services in Latin America," said Urrutia.
In his new role, the executive will be responsible for strengthening Bitso's global regulatory strategy, ensuring that the platform continues to be recognized as one of the safest and most reliable in the global crypto sector.
