Roskomnadzor officially announced the blocking of calls through the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers.
In a statement, Roskomnadzor said that Telegram and WhatsApp have become the main voice services used by scammers to deceive and extort money, as well as to involve in sabotage and terrorist activities.
The restriction on calls in Telegram and WhatsApp will be partial. The specifics of the "partiality" of the restrictions were not clarified by Roskomnadzor.
The Ministry of Digital Development promised that access to calls in Telegram and WhatsApp would be restored if the messengers comply with Russian legislation requirements.
The Association of Tour Operators of Russia advised tourists leaving the country to top up their phone accounts in advance due to the ban on calls via messengers.
