🇺🇸👁️ THE DHS WILL ACQUIRE ADVANCED IRIS SCANNING TECHNOLOGY FOR ICE TO IDENTIFY PEOPLE "IN SECONDS FROM ANYWHERE"
ICE will purchase the MORIS and I.R.I.S. systems from Bi² Technologies, technology that works on iPhones and Android. Agents will be able to scan irises from 1 meter away and compare over 265 unique features against national databases in real time.
🚨 The technology is already used by 180 law enforcement agencies and the 31 sheriffs along the border with Mexico. Now ICE will have instant access to state and federal criminal records, sex offender registries, and DHS databases. All without the need to transport detainees to processing centers.
The contract is "sole-source" (without competitive bidding), which eliminates transparency and can inflate costs. ICE did not disclose technical specifications, data-sharing agreements, or audit controls. It is the first known contract between ICE and Bi² Technologies.
🔐 Iris data goes to a private database controlled by Bi². It is unknown how long they retain the information, which employees have access, or what protections exist against leaks. The ACLU warns that this creates a "biometric wall" that will disproportionately affect immigrants.
This is part of Trump's biometric expansion: ICE already uses "Mobile Fortify" (facial recognition), EDDIE (fingerprints in 1 minute), and soon the HART system that will include voice, gait, and writing patterns. The era of total surveillance has arrived.
