P2P trading (peer to peer) is an incredible tool for buying or selling cryptocurrencies directly with other users, but it is also a place where scammers try to take advantage of those who are not attentive.

Here I tell you how they operate, how to detect them, and how to protect yourself.

🔴 How does this scam work?

The most common fraud in P2P is fraudulent payment. The scammer:

  • They send you a fake payment receipt.

  • They use stolen accounts to make transfers that the bank later reverses.

  • They try to pressure you to release the cryptos before verifying the money in your real account.

And beware: even if you make the transaction within the estimated time and release the crypto, they can later call the bank and say they do not recognize the transaction, causing the bank to reverse the payment and you lose the money and the cryptos. (What happened to me).

⚠ Warning signs:

  • Offers with prices that are too good to be true.

  • The buyer/seller rushes you to confirm.

  • They ask you to use payment methods outside of Binance.

  • They contact you outside of the official platform chat.

🛡 How to protect yourself in P2P Binance:

1️⃣ Always use the official Binance chat. Never accept to move the conversation to WhatsApp or social media.

2️⃣ Verify the payment in your real bank account before releasing the cryptos, not just with screenshots or receipts.

3️⃣ Check the user's reputation: number of transactions, success rate, and comments. Make sure their completion rate is between 97-99%.

4️⃣ Avoid large transactions with new users or users with questionable reputation.

5️⃣ Activate the appeal if you notice something suspicious and do not release until Binance resolves it.

💡 Golden advice that I learned the hard way: In P2P, patience is worth more than speed. Never release crypto if you are not 100% sure that the money is available and safe in your account.

Remember: in crypto, your best security is information. Binance offers a secure environment, but it is up to us to use it with caution.
