This UMIP-189 proposal is actually a key upgrade to the Polymarket mechanism of posing questions, providing answers, and litigating when there are disputes. The core highlights can be summarized into three aspects:
1. Whitelist Mechanism: Not everyone can raise disputes anymore; only qualified players recognized by the Polymarket and UMA teams (Risk Labs) can take action, effectively blocking malicious disruptors.
2. More Flexible Dispute Margin: Polymarket can adjust the dispute threshold at any time based on market risk levels, preventing frivolous disputes while not setting excessively high barriers for normal users.
3. Easier Parameter Adjustments: Modifying the parameters related to the oracle resolution process has become more efficient. The platform can quickly respond to emergencies or optimize the user experience without being bogged down by lengthy processes.
In my opinion, this proposal essentially strikes a balance between decentralization and usability. Completely open oracles are theoretically the fairest, but in reality, they can easily be exploited, delayed in settlement, or even vandalized.
MOOV 2 introduces a whitelist and adjustable margins, adding an operational safeguard on top of decentralization. This is a necessary evolution for a prediction market with real capital flow and a large user base.
For us players in the cryptocurrency space, this change means faster and more stable settlements. Previously, some Polymarket markets would take a long time to settle due to disputes, but now the whitelist and flexible margin will filter out most malicious disputes, increasing settlement speed. This means quicker capital turnover and more timely profits.
MOOV 2 is beneficial for retail investors in terms of liquidity and experience, while raising the threshold for arbitrage-oriented oracle players. Compared to similar projects, Polymarket tends to favor efficiency over user experience and governance decentralization, which will make it more attractive in the competitive prediction market, although the purity of decentralization will be slightly compromised.
