Countdown to the 'Trump-Putin Summit': The US and Russia are still brewing a bigger nuclear game

Last week, just one day before the so-called 'deadline' set by the US for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, news emerged that a meeting between the US and Russian leaders would take place. Analysts have pointed out that this meeting is highly anticipated, but it cannot overshadow the fact that fierce competition still exists between the US and Russia. Recently, the war of words between both sides has escalated, with discussions on nuclear deployments and treaties being continuously raised, causing serious concerns. According to a report from American Public Broadcasting, there is now only one nuclear weapons treaty remaining between the US and Russia, and a new arms race is possible.

US President Trump and Russian President Putin will meet on August 15 in Alaska, USA, to discuss the Ukraine crisis. This meeting will mark the first face-to-face encounter between Trump and Putin since their meeting during the G20 summit in 2019.

As for the trilateral meeting involving the US, Russia, and Ukraine that Trump previously mentioned, he provided a vague response. When a reporter asked, 'Does Putin have to meet with Zelensky first before you can meet with Putin?' Trump simply replied, 'Not necessary.'
