An unusual event took place in Lugano over the weekend: the statue of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was stolen and thrown into the lake. Municipal officials later found and restored it. The statue, erected in October 2024 at the initiative of the Plan ₿ project with support from Tether and the authorities of Lugano, was created by Bitcoin enthusiast Valentina Picozzi. It symbolizes the anonymous creator of the cryptocurrency, whose identity has remained a mystery for over 14 years. The vandals damaged the figure, breaking off most of it, leaving only two mounts at the base. A reward of 0.1 BTC (approximately $11,000) has been announced for the return of the statue. The project's goal is to establish 21 such statues around the world, with similar ones already in Japan and El Salvador. The incident underscores the mystery surrounding Nakamoto, whose true appearance remains a secret to the entire world.
