The blockchain intelligence platform Arkham Intelligence disclosed that in December 2020, the Chinese Bitcoin mining pool LuBian suffered a hacker attack, losing 127,426 Bitcoins (approximately $14.5 billion at current prices), becoming the largest cryptocurrency theft incident by value at that time. LuBian was once the sixth-largest mining pool in the world and suddenly disappeared in February 2021. Arkham stated that this attack may have originated from vulnerabilities in its private key generation algorithm, resulting in over 90% of BTC being stolen. Until now, the stolen Bitcoins have not been transferred, and LuBian had previously released information through the Bitcoin OP_RETURN field, calling on the hacker to return the assets.
