Companies will need to start transitioning to the digital ruble from September 1, 2026. The implementation of the new form of money will take place in stages, starting with large businesses and major banks. The State Duma has approved the draft law on this matter (draft law No. 811008-8).
The first to connect to the new system will be the largest banks and companies with an annual revenue exceeding 120 million rubles. They will be required to provide customers with the ability to open digital wallets, pay for goods and services, and transfer money in digital format.
In 2027, medium-sized businesses will connect to the system. And from September 1, 2028, almost all companies and entrepreneurs with an annual revenue of more than 5 million rubles will also be required to accept the digital ruble. To do this, they will need to update their accounting software, keep track of transactions in the new format, and use a universal payment code (UPC) for accurate identification of the recipient of funds.
