NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang discussed his observations on China's supply chain, the future of AI technology, and NVIDIA's role in the US-China competition during an interview in Beijing on July 20. He stated that the global supply chain is tightly interconnected and will not decouple, and that there is a way to find a balance between competition and cooperation between the US and China.

China is a key hub in the global supply chain.

Jensen Huang emphasized that China has the world's largest, most complex, and most diverse supply chain; it not only produces itself but also manufactures components, control systems, and parts, playing a key role in the global supply chain. Even as the global supply chain begins to push for diversification and establish backups, they will still be interconnected and cannot completely decouple because of the high complexity of the industry. The United States is also unlikely, nor does it need to, produce everything itself, while China's supply chain expertise is likely to export to the whole world in the future.

China excels at innovating with 'limited resources' in AI research and development.

Next, Jensen Huang discussed AI, specifically mentioning DeepSeek's R1 model, which can redesign the model's computation methods to fully leverage the advantages of the H20 chip, achieving world-class standards. He believes this is the innovative result forced out of humanity under pressure and limitations, like DeepSeek, Alibaba's 'Qwen', Moonshot, Kimi, and other AI models, as well as China's electric vehicles, all of which are breakthroughs made under limited conditions.

China's technological strength should not be underestimated; calls for US-China competition and cooperation to coexist.

Jensen Huang then recalled coming to China 30 years ago, when there were only Lenovo and Great Wall Computer; now the partners include Alibaba, Meituan, Tencent, Xiaomi, BYD, etc. He said the Chinese market is quite unique, possessing the most engineers, the most computer scientists, and the largest consumer population in the world. The consequences of not engaging in the Chinese market are hard to predict, but they should not be good.

He then directly praised Huawei as an 'extremely innovative, large-scale, and technologically advanced' enterprise, excelling in smartphones, self-driving cars, and AI technology. He stated that if NVIDIA did not advance into the Chinese market, services would still be provided by Huawei and other Chinese chipmakers, cloud service providers, and startups.

Jensen Huang does not view competition as war; he stated that without competition, there would be no large market, no prosperity, and no growth. He emphasized that many of NVIDIA's clients are also competitors but can collaborate because today's world is highly interdependent. He further stressed that the world is vast, and competition and cooperation can coexist while still respecting and appreciating each other.

AI is the largest technological revolution in history; NVIDIA will become a global AI infrastructure promoter.

Jensen Huang believes that AI is the greatest technological revolution in human history, more fundamental and larger than electricity and the internet, and will become the infrastructure for every country and every industry in the future.

AI can double everyone's capabilities, as if everyone suddenly could run super fast, fly, create, and write stories. He further pointed out that AI is the strongest tool for equality; even if you haven't attended college or are not a professional artist or writer, AI can help you express and create.

Finally, Jensen Huang shared his 30-year career journey, admitting that every day when he wakes up he feels NVIDIA is about to go bankrupt, a feeling that has not changed from the early days of starting the company to its market value breaking a trillion.

The only joy is seeing the achievements of the company, employees, and partners, like watching friends build a new car, or seeing OpenAI, Google, and Elon Musk launch new AI products; he is quite excited because he has somewhat participated in it. He hopes NVIDIA will always maintain a sense of crisis and not become complacent.
